Project Based Learning

Project Based Learning

Mrs. Zimmerman's class has taken the form of Project Based learning, where students continually work on projects to learn new concepts. One of the recent projects was Biome Survival. In this project, students were on a plane that crashed into biomes. Whichever biome the students landed in, they had to make a survival plan based on the natural resources and the few resources they had along with them on the plane.

The survival plan included several steps for the students. They had to find and build shelter, plant gardens based on which continent they were on, and make a map for a rescue plane to find them! Students learned to work together with others whose plane crashed in the same biome. They combined resources, and shared ideas about how to "survive."

Students were excited throughout the project and worked hard for many days to make the best plan. Creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration are a few out of the many skills they used in the project. There were challenges (like growing a garden in the tundra), but the students found a plan that worked for their survival. They were proud to share their projects and the process they went through to be rescued from the biome!
